$35 per color (100 prints, up to 11x17)
Add $5 for each additional group of 50 impressions. Pricing is the same regardless of paper size.
Additional Fees:
File Setup - $15+ depending on complexity
Trimming - 1 cut included, pricing increases based on complexity
Rush Job - $25 minimum, or 30% of your total order cost. Applies to local orders with deadline sooner than 7 days, shipped orders with deadline sooner than 10 days. Rush jobs may not be available for large zine/book orders.
Binding - Varies based on book/zine length and style of binding, a quote will be provided. Bindings available are stapled pamphlet, spiral, and perfect.
Proofing - 2 proofs are included in your order (one for initial review and a second if changes are required). If you require additional proofing this can be done for $5 per color and $20 per hour.
Blotting Service - For prints with heavy coverage we recommend inserting blotting paper between each print, especially if they are being trimmed. Blotting service begins at $20 per 50 prints, and increases by $15 per 50 prints.
Paper Upcharges - Printing on either newsprint or paper over 80lb cover requires an upcharge due to increased paper jams, troubleshooting, and/or additional wear on the machine.
Limitations
Riso is a particular process and it may not fit the needs of every project. Here are some of the quirks of riso to consider before going forward.
1. Smudging:
The riso uses a rice based ink that never truly dries, so it has the potential to smudge. This is primarily true of large areas of heavy ink coverage, and is much less noticeable on lighter prints or prints with a lot of negative space. This is rarely an issue on body text.
2. Roller Marks:
If you are printing more than 2 layers, it is possible that the ink from the previous layer will leave a tire-like mark when printing the next one. This can be avoided by keeping heavy areas of ink out of the centerline of your print, or by leaving a larger margin on a leading edge. However, if there is heavy coverage it is still likely to be an issue. You can remove these marks with an eraser if the paper is otherwise blank in that spot. If we are concerned that there will be heavy roller marks based on your design, we will let you know before printing.
3. Misregistration:
The MH9450 prints 2 colors at a time. Because of this, there may be some misregistration in your edition, especially with 3 or more colors. This will vary from print to print.
4. Uneven Coverage:
If you are printing a large area of solid color, there might be some inconsistencies in the ink application. This may include darker lines of ink, small white spots, or an uneven/banded texture.
5. Necessary Margins:
The riso can print on up to 11x17 paper, but the print size is smaller than that. We require at lease a quarter inch margin on 11x17 prints, and recommend an inch on the leading edge (the side that goes through the printer first).
